About Me

Hey, I'm Daniel, a seasoned UX/UI and Interaction Designer with a background in graphic, fine art and education.

I love working in and generally hanging out with a team but can also equally go it alone, when necessary. I let freedom and creativity lead the way, but my logical side always marks the destination and packs a map.

You can catch me ripping it on my bike or hunting for fresh power but more often than not I'm squirrelled away catching up with, and being wowed by, the amazing work being put out by the design community.

My Working Style & Ethic

I am a highly creative, driven and goal orientated person who is dedicated to pushing boundaries and fully realising the potential of every project I undertake. I don't shy away from identifying and breaking old, restrictive paradigms when I feel more effective and equitable solutions can be found. While I excel at macro thinking, I also recognises that it is often the smaller details of a project that are the most emotionally impactful.

I am a social person who thrives in agile, collaborative environments, valuing the contributions of my colleagues and users, while confidently sharing my insights on human perception, motivation, and behaviour. My expertise, developed through study and shaped by extensive professional experience in UX design coupled with my unique background as a special needs educator working with neurodivergent students, and my years of living and working around the world in various socio-economic environments, has enriched my perspective and honed my ability to create inclusive and accessible designs.

The emotion generated by the way something is done, said or presented primes reception, and as such, I stay detail orientated to be sure that all elements of a design support the desired outcome.

My Background Before UX & Digital Design

My path into UX has not been direct. It was my journey as an art studio founder and lead artist that developed the transferable skills and life experience that has allowed me to become an exceptional digital designer.

Founding Parris Arts Collective in Saigon Vietnam in November of 2019, as the sole employee, placed me in a position where I had to assume many roles and undertake extremely long working hours in order to pursue the growth of the art studio. In the early stages, in addition to being the sole artist creating all of the studios artwork, I also had to create for, manage and grow PAC's social media presence and secure interest in the studio and my work.

Through a consistency of high quality and relevant work, an awareness of best marketing practices, strong customer engagement and active networking, I grew the studio to a point where our workload could support five artists spread across private commissions and corporate collaborations where we were approached in order to raise various Saigonese businesses visual appeal and customer connection. The pinnacle of these collaborations was the opportunity to design the Vietnamese national basketballs teams' jerseys, to work directly with the Miss Saigon pageant competition and an offer to franchise the studio throughout Vietnam.

Through this experience I gain invaluable experience as a creative but also as a businessman managing a diverse team, delivering large and complex projects and being forced to make balanced decisions between the product and the benefit of the enterprise as a whole.
